Default Site / Technical Short Courses / ECVP 2015 Satellite Workshop
Following our series of popular technical seminars during 2014 devoted to practical aspects of vision research, this year we are offering a half-day workshop on Sunday 23rd August before the start of the main ECVP annual meeting. The 2015 workshop will provide a theoretical and practical introduction to the SID Information Display Measurements Standard (IDMS) and its application for vision research.
Using the techniques described in the IDMS, we aim specifically to help early-career vision scientists to understand how to characterise the display devices that they intend to use in their research laboratory.
The workshop is free and open to all registered ECVP attendees. Advance registration is not compulsory but highly recommended as space is limited. Note that those attending the theoretical session will be given preference if they want to attend the practical session.
The application of the SID Information Display Measurements Standard in vision research
The workshop provides a theoretical and practical introduction to the Information Display Measurements Standard (IMDS) and its application for vision research. A PDF version of the standard is available for free to download from the ICDM website. A printed version of the standard can be ordered from the SID website.
Sunday 23rd August 2015, 13:00-15:00, Room TBD, University of Liverpool
The theoretical session includes an introduction to the complete IDMS, followed by an in-depth discussion of the fundamental measurements that vision scientists should consider making in their own laboratories. The measurements discussed will include:
Sunday 23rd August 2015, 15:00-17:00, Room TBD, University of Liverpool
The practical session will show attendees how to apply aspects of the IDMS by making measurements of their own laptop screen using a new free software Toolbox for MATLAB and instrumentation provided by CRS. The practical session will require attendees to bring a laptop with MATLAB and the latest release of the Psychophysics Toolbox installed (Psychtoolbox-3).
Benefits: Attendees will be able to:
Intended audience: Those who wish to learn the measurements needed to present accurate stimuli, and the appropriate methods and procedures required to take those measurements.
